The Schuyler Blanket Project

bringing comfort to bereaved parents one square at a time

Making hugs February 18, 2011

We have new opportunities for you to make a “portable hug” for families in need. Below are two terrible heartbreaking stories of loss. Please consider knitting or crocheting for these blankets. If you do not knit or crochet, pass this link on to friends or family who do. Thank you.

For Chad

Chad and his wife Sara were  in a car accident on February 5. Sara was killed instantly, and their baby girl, Miranda, was delivered 45 minutes later. At birth, Miranda’s heart was not beating, nor was she breathing. The doctors were able to resuscitate her, but little Miranda never showed any brain activity.  On February 8, Chad made the heart wrenching decision to let her go. Please help us send some comfort to Chad at this dark, dark time. We are collecting 48 8″x8″ squares in soft, washable fibers. To pledge to this blanket, please contact the supervising mod at melindaATschuylersblanketsDOTorg. Thank you so very much.

Deadline: April 30, 2011

For Joey and Chrissy

Joey and Chrissy had a baby girl, Sophia, at the end of October, 2010. Sophia arrived at only 25 weeks gestation. Tragically, she died three days later. Will you please help us send a tangible hug to Joey and Chrissy by contributing 8″x8″ squares in soft, washable fibers? We hope to have this blanket completed in time for Sophia’s first birthday. To pledge to this blanket, please contact the supervisor at tammanyATschuylersblanketsDOTorg. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent.

I am interested in donating my time to make the blankets. Could you give me further instructions and directions as to where to send the finished squares.

    thank you,

Darlene – grandma to a grandson born at 24 weeks – 1 lb. and 9 oz. – he turned 2 in April and is our miracle baby. My heart goes out to all the families that their little ones didn’t make it. God Bless them.

    • Darlene, thank you so much for offering your time! The best way to get squares to blankets is to contact the supervisor of the blanket you to which you’d like to send squares. On the right hand side of this page there is a box called “Blanket Stats.” The names in parentheses are the names of the supervisors. Simply email that person and let them know how many squares you’d like to send. They will let you know who the sponsor is and how to get squares to them. All of our email addresses are listed on the “Contact Us” page and on the “Blankets in Progress” page.

I’m so glad your grandson is doing well. It always warms my heart to hear of the babies that make it against the odds.
