The Schuyler Blanket Project

bringing comfort to bereaved parents one square at a time

Who We Are October 31, 2009

The Schuyler Blanket Project originated as the Tammany Blanket Project on Ravelry shortly after I lost my daughter, Schuyler. Several of my friends, “real life” and “online” wanted to help my husband and I, but were not sure how. They decided to contribute their time and talent to create a blanket in which Mike and I could wrap up. We feel as if we are wrapped in a warm, loving hug each time we use our precious blanket.

I was so touched by the loving, generous spirit of my friends that I wanted to pay it forward. I asked the same women and men who made my blanket if they would help me bring a little comfort to other grieving parents. The response was overwhelming. In the last eighteen months, we have made or are making over twenty blankets for parents who have lost children of all ages. Their stories are all different, but their heartbreak is all the same. Nothing will ever replace their children, but we hope that through our work, we can let these “angel parents” know that they are not alone and that their children are not forgotten.

Please join us in bringing some extra love and support to those who need it most. Thank you.

Tammany Harding

First of all i am so deeply sorry about the loss of your little girl. I also lost my new born baby about an hour after his birth. My life was for ever changed. I hope the blanket that was made for you warms you up in the cold path of grief and loss.
What a wonderful project you have started in Schuyler’s name. She will be lovingly remembered together with all those children whose families will find some comfort in these precious blankets.
I looked all over your website to know how to submit families, but I couldn’t find anything. I have a babylost friend whose baby was born still at term 17 months ago. She is now pregnant again with lots of anxiety of course. It would be so beautiful to offer her a blanket to remember her lost child and welcome the new baby… How does it work?

May you find some comfort and hope through this wonderful project. My heart goes to you and your husband.

    • Colette,
I’m so very sorry for your loss. It’s just horrible how many people I’ve found have lost children since Mike and I lost Schuyler. It’s beyond tragic. I hope that you have found a measure of peace within your new sense of normal.
I’d be happy to have a blanket started for your friend. Until our permanent website is up, you should just email me with a little of your friend’s story, her name, the name of the baby she lost if they named him/her, etc. I will post something to Ravelry and Facebook as well as this blog. When is your friend due? It would be great if we could her blanket done in time for the new arrival.
Thank you so much for your support. You can email me at tammanyATschuylersblanketsDOTorg.
